Coach Mike grew up playing competitive travel hockey in Northern VA. His coaching career started around the age of 13 helping his younger brother’s travel team. Mike moved to Charlotte in 2001 to study mechanical engineering at UNCC and pursue a career in the NASCAR industry. Trading the ice skates for roller blades he played and coached the UNCC Roller hockey team throughout college. Coaching a group of peers provided excellent coach/leadership training. After graduating, coach hung up the skates for a while and focused on racing. In racing, he’s been a part of championship caliber teams and mentored by some of the greatest leaders in pro-sports while at Joe Gibbs Racing (2006-2021) and now as the director of shop operations at 23XI Racing (owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin). Coach Mike has over 15 years’ experience coaching various ages and skill levels of hockey. He’s been head coaching at the Pineville Ice House since 2018. Coach Mike uses all his competition and life experiences to teach young athletes hockey, leadership, and life skills.
