Matthew “Matt” Lawhon’s journey in hockey is a full circle story, from honing his skills in the youth leagues of Charlotte to clinching a National Championship as a captain for the hometown Charlotte Rush. Matt’s early years were spent navigating the competitive landscapes of the Jr. Checkers, TPH Thunder, and Ohio Blue Jackets, experiences that not only built his foundation in hockey but also ingrained in him a deep understanding of the game’s dynamics across different levels.

Returning to Charlotte to play junior hockey was a homecoming for Matt, where he donned the Rush jersey for four impactful years. His leadership qualities and on-ice skills were undeniable, culminating in his role as captain of a National Championship-winning team. This pinnacle of his playing career underscored Matt’s commitment, skill, and ability to inspire those around him.

As a coach, Matt brings an impressive blend of agility and technical prowess to the CPH development team. Known for his exceptional skating ability and high skill set, Matt is perfectly poised to contribute significantly to the coaching staff. His deep-rooted understanding of the Charlotte hockey scene, combined with his achievements on the national stage, make him a fantastic asset to our team.
